Tallahasee, November 15, 2023 – In the aftermath of Hurricane Idalia, the Community Foundation of North Florida (CFNF) activated its Disaster Relief Fund and received a $350,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation to provide disaster relief to Madison and Taylor counties. CFNF has also received contributions from other community foundations and individuals, to support its efforts to help those most impacted by the hurricane.
CFNF’s approach to Madison County relief efforts has been rooted in leadership support from State Representative Allison Tant, and direct engagement with community leaders, emergency management, and the FEMA Volunteer Liaisons for Madison County. This hands-on approach has allowed CFNF to gain insights into the unique challenges faced by Madison County residents. Working collaboratively with the Madison County Strong Long Term Recovery Group, a newly formed organization dedicated to community resilience, CFNF will provide tailored financial relief support. This strategic partnership ensures that assistance is aligned with the identified and evolving needs of Madison County. Madison Strong.
For Taylor County, CFNF has had leadership support from State Senator Corey Simon, and engaged with several community leaders, nonprofit organizations, and the FEMA Volunteer Liaisons. CFNF will work with the long-term recovery group that residents are working to establish. Short-term relief support has been provided to the Boys and Girls Club of North Central Florida (BGC). BGC received a $38,000 grant to repair fencing damage at four of its locations and a shade structure for locations that lost natural shade due to the destruction of trees on the properties.
